The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday approved the first generic version of its arthritis drug Celebrex, which treats arthritis in the hands and arms. The drug is the first non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) to enter the market that acts on pain-relieving enzymes and inhibits pain-causing chemicals. The drug has a half-life of about 24 hours.
The agency said the approval is a "first-in-class effort" to address pain and inflammation and address potential risks of prescription drugs like the painkiller Motrin and the arthritis drug Aleve.
The drug is the world's first FDA-approved drug for arthritis. It is available on prescription and over-the-counter from several pharmacies in the U. S.
The drug will be sold in a boxed package and is indicated for adults and children aged 12 years and older. It is available at participating pharmacies in the U. and is used to treat adults with arthritis.

CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Celecoxib, sulfonamides, aspirin and/or other NSAIDs. It is also not recommended for use in patients with/had a history of an ulcer in stomach/intestines, bleeding in stomach/intestines, blood circulation problems (such as peripheral arterial disease), red itchy welts, inflammatory disease of the intestines (such as ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s disease).
The medicine is also not indicted for use in patients suffering from lung problems (such as asthma), heart diseases (such as heart failure, recent heart attack, heart block), severe liver disease (such as advanced hepatic insufficiency) and/or kidney disease (such as advanced renal insufficiency).
Before taking CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, raised blood pressure, increased cholesterol, signs of fluid retention (such as swollen ankles and feet) and/or hyperkalemia (increased potassium level in blood).
CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women.
CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged 2 to 17 years) to manage only juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.

During use of CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE for more than 7 days, early notice of serious markers can occur. These can include symptomatic Raynaud symptoms, including thin and young blood lymph node swelling, pain and swelling in the chest, severe chest pain, fast heart rate, chest pain with a flow defect, palpitations, chest pain with shortness of breath, severe heart failure, signs of fluid retention (such as swollen ankles and feet) and/or hyperkalemia (increased potassium level in blood).
If you notice any signs of serious markers in your blood like symptomatic Raynaud symptoms or serious heart failure, you should consult a doctor immediately.
There are no specific restrictions or guidelines on use in children and adolescents under 2 years of age.
